Superior technique combined with a conceptional approach: within the boundaries of the functional 4/4-scheme, subtle transformations lead to new sound adventures. These night´s projects fuse the academic tradition of self-invented instruments or software with the experiences gathered on the dancefloors around the world. So the last sceptic will be convinced that way beyond dreadful mainstream there is an ambitious international standard in dance music.

Andy Mellwig, the other half of Porter Ricks next to Thomas Köner, experiments with electronic sound generators since 1987. The project name Continuous Mode is based on a software developed by Andy Mellwig, that enables congruity of compository processes and technical skills, thus abolishing the border between DJ and producer. Robert Henke aka Monolake follows a similar idea: his former partner Gerhard Behles founded Ableton AG, a company for music software, whose product LIVE works against the problem that many artists become slaves just playing audiofile by audiofile during their live performances without acutally being able to creatively interfere with the musical process. In contrast to Andy Mellwig's functional dancefloor-project Continuous Mode, Monolake works with a hybrid of dancefloor and listening, whose film-like and narrative structures can be described best with one of his album titles: Cinemascope! Akufen, shooting star of the year 2002, comes from Montréal. In his self-invented style „Microsampling“ he combines mass-compatible house surfaces with found footage from radio stations. Are Dee aka Lumpen, absolute newcomer from Zürich, premiering in Germany, will present his humoristic minimal house based on speech samples. There's already some rumour about negotiations with two big companies..... Ben Nevile from Canada comes to Berlin for the first time, too, and brings his competently nonchalant dub-clones. The end of the night will be celebrated by one of the oustanding tec-house sets of Jacek Sienkiewicz from Warsaw.
