With the special programme [GO EAST], club transmediale presents projects from emerging Eastern Europe musical scenes and provides a platform for international exchange and networking. As geographic divisions only lead to the formation of self-contained circles, or help to perpetuate ingrained misconceptions and hinder a true exchange, the invited artists will present their works as integral components placed throughout the festival in various programme slots. Since electronic music from Eastern Europe has only little access to the more established Western networks so far, the aspect of integration is a main motive for the realization of this special programme.

Presentation and discussion:
Austrian journalist Susanna Niedermayr will give an overview on Eastern Europe´s experimental and electronic music and its protagonists with a presentation of her latest publication [In The East -New Music Territories in Europe] made in collaboration with austrian journalist Christian Scheib, which is based on several years of research work. The presentation will be followed by a talk on the state of affairs with the participation of the artists present.

In Hungary, Slovenia, Slovakia, Poland, Bulgaria and Croatia, Susanna Niedermayr and Christian Scheib visited and interviewed musicians and composers - most of them artists who were completely unknown in the West at the time. The reports which resulted examine musical and aesthetic currents as they relate to social changes, portraying organisational power centres of the new movements that were shooting up, from Internet platforms to composers' associations, and also telling stories of cases where art and politics clash. For the rich and varied scenes - electronic music, contemporary composition, improvisation, the club scene - not only react to social conditions, but sometimes determine those conditions' further development as well.

The preface of the book can be found in the menue on the left.

Susanna Niedermayr and Christian Scheib also sign responsible for a number of radio features on SFB- RadioKultur 92,4 MHz, chanel 18, "Musik der Gegenwart", always 22.00 - 23.00 - don´t miss it!
