SIGNAL-TERRITORIES - a KEYNODE session by Jadviga, Mx and Nullo

The KEYNODE sessions is an ongoing project by Jadviga, Mx, Nullo and other artists associated with Projekt Atol and Microlab studio, and a performance derivative of a larger body of art and research work done within the framework of the above organisations. The compositions are produced on a base of SIGINT (signals intelligence) material together with large portions of broadcast telecommunications traffic from satellites, HF trunk, broadcast, service and amateur networks from all over the world and are mixed live with with linear support lines and rhythm sections. Signal-Territories is the first of the new series of live acts under the KEYNODE sessions label, which will look deep into the essence of the aural qualities, functions and disfunctions of the various emanations in the electromagnetic spectrum and specifically its network centric realities.

The rx:tx label was launched in april 2002 in Gwangju, Republic of Korea during the opening of the Gwangju Biennale. The label was established by a group of Slovenian conceptual /sound artists, computer engineers and architects, working mainly in the electronic music field and is formally a division of the Projekt Atol Institute (zavod Projekt Atol), a non-profit art/concept production institution, founded in 1994 and managing diverse artistic and scientific projects, among others the makrolab (makrolab.ljudmila.org), the insular technologies initiative (www.insular.net) and working closely with space related institutions, such as the Yuri Gagarin Cosmonaut Training Centre Zvezdni Gorodok (GCTC), TsUP Korolev and others. At the first glance, far from electronic music, but at the deeper level, with the aim of providing state of the art soundscapes and reflection for state of the art spiritual and scientific spheres. One of the main decisions behind the founding of the label was, for all involved quite simple, to enable access to production facilities and the editing and distribution of material to artists from all over the world, but with the specific focus on post-communist countries, with a lively but larger unknown production of new electronic beats, grooves, clicks, cracks and infosphere noise.
