A sound trip beneath the Alps into the tunnels and pits of Gotthard and Lötschberg, where two gigantic tunnel projects are currently under construction. These controversial symbols of the attempt to subdue nature, of progress, and of the ongoing process of European unity are the focus of the project, Gallerie 57/34.6, and the framework in which "construction sonor" was developed. Primary material for the four performances are field recordings made by the Zürich musician, Bernd Schurer, on the tunnel building-sites. His recordings were then put at the disposal of 15 musicians (Fennesz, Monolake, Balduin, Boris Blank/Yello, amongst others). The results are documented on a CD, which will be available in February. The evening starts with a screening documenting tunnel construction, whilst the live performances will be visually elaborated by the Swiss video artist, Ursula Palla.
